The Hong Kong government introduced the Workplace English Campaign (WEC) in 2000 to heighten public awareness of the importance of having a good command of English in the workplace.

From 1st January 2005 funding is being granted to Hong Kong employees for taking an in-house tailor-made English training course commissioned by their company and for a specified international business English examination.

Funding is given to meet 50% of the employees' English training costs and examination fees, subject to a maximum of HK$3,000 per person. Reimbursement will be released to the applying company after employees concerned have attained the minimum benchmark in one of the specified international business English examinations.
